Get acquainted with the Urban Education TIG

In Leeuwarden 2024

In the meetings of the Thematic Interest Group (TIG) on Urban Education, we explore the complexities and opportunities in urban education in a broad sense. We aim to create a program with various experts, teaching methods, and topics. We hope that participants gain valuable insights into how schools (kindergarten, primary school, secondary school, university) in urban settings can better meet the needs of diverse pupil populations.

We believe it is important that, in addition to exchanging research results, workshops, and discussions, it is also beneficial to visit a school and its surroundings. That is why we always try to organize a school visit, so we have the opportunity to see firsthand how urban education is implemented in a local context. Furthermore, a neighborhood tour is always part of the Urban TIG program, enabling participants to analyze and discuss the urban environment surrounding the schools we visit. This experience encourages a deeper understanding of the relationship between schools and the urban landscapes in which they are situated.

The Thematic Interest Group on Urban Education is a super-diverse group with professionals from various countries, such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Ethiopia, Denmark, the United States, and Israel. Every country has its own challenges and solutions when it comes to providing high-quality education for all pupils.

If you want to know more about the specific topics covered in our TIG, visit our website where you can view photos and find previous presentations.

We look forward to coming together with teacher educators and research professors to share insights and explore innovative approaches to the challenges found in urban education.
