The “Hosting an ETEN meeting project”

Invitation – share your experiences

The board has been discussing the importance of preserving traditions and learning from past experiences within the ETEN organisation. We are interested in exploring how future meetings can be further developed, as well as identifying any challenges or pitfalls we might avoid.

Our intention is to create a set of helpful guidelines for future organisers. We also believe it would be valuable to share insights and experiences from those who have hosted ETEN events. I would love to invite you to a short interview, focusing specifically on your perspective as an ETEN host.

My aim is for this to be a relaxed and informal conversation, so there is no need for extensive preparation. However, if you would like to reflect in advance, here are a few topics we might cover:

  • A brief introduction about yourself
  • How you first became involved with ETEN
  • What motivated you to apply as a host
  • Your experience with the preparations
  • How you experienced the conference/symposium itself
  • Your reflections and thoughts afterwards
  • Any advice you would offer to future hosts
  • Mistakes – funny surprises

I look forward to meet you – but if you prefer to write the text yourself, that’s more than welcome.

  2. Dear Thomas!

    Hope you are alright?

    We missed you in Tirana.

Right now I decided to go the easy way and hope to gather information and experiences more basic.

    My new plan:

Hello dear former organizers of ETEN events!

When the board asked me to gather experiences from hosting, I may have been a bit too ambitious. I initially planned to conduct in-depth interviews in Vlorë, hoping to reach a more personal level. That was, of course, entirely the wrong place and time—but hopefully we can revisit that idea later (see the link to the interview guide) https://etenjournal.com/2026/04/21/the-hosting-an-eten-meeting-project/.

My new plan is to collect practical advice on what really matters to keep in mind. There is already a checklist for logistical aspects, but I’m sure you have your own insights as well. I only have two questions, and I hope you’ll have time to answer them:

Three things you absolutely must keep in mind

Three things you should definitely avoid

I may reach out again later about that interview if you’d be interested!

    All the best
